Volunteer or Intern with NYAC

Internships

NYAC is committed to investing in the leaders of tomorrow by providing meaningful internship opportunities today. Potential interns are encouraged to design and propose their own internship project, based on their interests and their academic needs. Internships at NYAC must fall into one or more of NYAC's key focus areas listed below:

  • Capacity Building
Working with local, state and national organizations to increase their effectiveness in working with LGBTQ youth. This work ranges from developing model programs to providing a national infrastructure to improve communication between organizations working with LGBTQ youth.

  • Advocacy
Advocating for issues important to LGBTQ youth and the organizations that work with them and bringing together local, state and national organizations on issues important to LGBTQ youth. This includes bringing local issues to a state and national level; and bringing LGBTQ young people and their perspectives to the attention of leaders setting the national policy agendas.

  • Youth Engagement
Helping youth navigate their way in the world of our movement and the political system. NYAC offers assistance to local, state and national organizations interested in engaging and empowering LGBTQ youth. We also support the development of strategies and programs to engage LGBTQ youth in the political process.

  • Development
Generating funds to keep our programs running. NYAC strives to develop programs that advance the many causes affecting the lives of LGBTQ youth through effective fundraising and grant writing.

All internships at NYAC are non-paid. However, the agency is happy to supervise work for academic credit and offer letters of recommendation.

To propose an internship project, please submit your contact information, resume and a proposal narrative. Your narrative should not exceed 3 pages and should include:

  1. A description of the project
  2. How NYAC would benefit from the project
  3. How you would benefit from the project
  4. What you would need from NYAC (such as resources, equipment, office space, supervision, etc).

Proposal submissions and inquiries should be directed to:
