The National Youth Advocacy Coalition,
in partnership with Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention, is a provider
of Capacity Building Assistance for
organizations which are planning
or implementing HIV testing programs
and services for youth and young
adults -- specifically, those that
work with LGBTQ or youth of color.
NYAC offers skill-based competency
training to HIV counseling and testing
staff on the appropriate and adequate
provision of HIV testing to youth
and young adult populations. The
competency training covers topics
of relevance such as adolescent development,
considerations for providing HIV
testing to youth with an emphasis
on youth of color and sexual minority
youth, and practical and reality-based
counseling and testing protocols
for use with either standard or rapid
test technology in any setting.
NYAC
also provides participating organizations
with training on implementing You
Know Different within their
community, complete with the necessary
materials
and evaluation tools. In addition, NYAC offers a variety of technical assistance and training to LGBTQ youth serving organizations focusing on the creation of safe spaces, mentoring, and the development of organizational policies and protocols to ensure the safety of the young people being served.
