NYAC's Board of Directors is composed of individuals from across the United States, who bring a diverse blend of personal and professional backgrounds and experiences. The Board affirmatively seeks applications from youth, people of color, and people of transgender experience. The following individuals are currently Directors of NYAC.
JESÚS
CHAPA-MALACARA (Brooklyn,
New York) has been
involved in social justice work
since he was a child, and LGBTQ
organizing for seven years. Among
his community service and volunteer
work, he¡s served as a board
member of the Ewing Marion Kauffman
Foundation¡s Youth Advisory Board
and a co-coordinator of the LGBTQ
Co-operative at Yale University,
and currently serves on the board
of directors of Yale GALA: the
LGBT Alumnae/I Network. Most
recently, Jesñs has worked as
co-director and production manager
of MIMA Productions (a performance
art production company) and as
a consultant to Jerusalem World
Pride. He currently works as
a modern dancer and independent
consultant in New York City,
and holds a B.A. in political
science from Yale University
(2004).
Jesñs was born in Monterrey,
Mexico, and grew up in Kansas
City, Missouri.
CAEDEN
DEMPSEY (Washington,
D.C.) manages youth
organizing with Advocates for Youth,
an organization that is dedicated
to creating programs and advocating
for policies that help young people
make informed and responsible decisions
about their reproductive and sexual
health. Previously, Caeden worked
with the United States Student
Association (USSA) as the first
Director of their LGBT Student
Empowerment Project. In that position
Caeden trained students around
the country in direct action and
electoral action organizing. After
USSA, Caeden joined the National
Center for Transgender Equality
as the organization's Field Director.
MAYA
MARCEL-KEYES (Chicago,
Illinois)
HARPER
SELDIN (Charlotte, North
Carolina) serves as a board member
for Time Out Youth (www.timeoutyouth.org),
the only Charlotte organization
that serves gay, lesbian, bisexual,
transgender, and questioning
youth ages 13-23. Harper
is a member of Time Out's
Speakers Bureau, a program that
allows LGBTQ youth and straight
allies to present their diverse
experiences to the greater Charlotte
community. At Time Out's
South Eastern Regional Conference
he introduced the program's
keynote speaker, Kate Bornstein. He
is also an online peer educator
for Youth Resource (www.youthresource.com),
a project of Advocates for Youth
by and for LGBTQ youth. In
that capacity he also co-facilitated
a workshop at the February 2006
Ryan White National Youth Conference
on HIV & AIDS, "Safety
Last: The War on Condoms." He
is currently attending high school
in Charlotte, where he is working
on a continuous basis to improve
the resources for LGBTQ youth
in his school.
