The National Youth Advocacy Coalition with support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Division of HIV/AIDS, Capacity Building Branch, has created an award winning national strategy to help your organization increase HIV testing rates among youth. This project provides communities and organizations with materials that promote HIV testing among youth in an empowering and authentic way, recognizing the skills, determination and ability of young people to mobilize, talk honestly and take action to stop the spread of HIV among their peers, families, and communities.
With a focus on African American and sexual minority youth, You Know Different is the first nationally coordinated, youth-driven social marketing campaign designed for implementation on a small community level. The campaign has been successful due to a number of elements — one being the community collaboration that develops amongst participating organizations and the opportunities for capacity building and professional development that are offered to each participating organization. This project includes a community level mobilization effort where youth serving agencies partner with AIDS service organizations in a planning process to identify strategies to promote HIV testing to youth and young adults.
